Global Iridology Research

Abstract

Iridology is the science and practice that helps to learn the health status through the examination of the structural aspects of an eye. Iris segmentation is an important phase in Iridology that aids to recognize iris signs and identify aberrant organ activity. The primary elements of iris segmentation are the detections of the iris and pupil. However, iris segmentation is greatly impacted by noises and images with low quality. The proper method for iris and pupil detection supports improving the result of iris segmentation in Iridology. This study provides a computer vision-based method to segment the human eye’s iris and pupil using an alternate method. The procedure is based on the red channel information of the image with various image processing operations. Iris images from the UBIRIS.v1. Dataset, which was taken in less restrictive image acquisition conditions, is used in an experiment. This method gives a unique way for iris segmentation with an accuracy of [...]

ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular diseases have proven to be the leading reason of death worldwide. To identify cardiovascular diseases at an early stage, often very expensive pathological tests are required. A less costly alternative method for determining the conditions of the organs is highly appreciated, and Iridology is one such popular method. Many researchers have proposed cardiovascular disease identification systems by combining Iridology with computation system. In this study, a novel model for detecting heart abnormalities using Iridology is proposed.

The entire process includes several stages such as target capture, pre-processing, autocropping based on histogram analysis, heart area extraction, and classification using a thresholding algorithm.

The cropping method and classification process are both affected by the iris photography procedure. The iridology expert at Clinic in Indonesia labelled the data as abnormal and normal. The precision produced by the system ranges from 80-83%. Some errors occur due to ineffective cropping. The failed outcome may affect the segmentation process [...]

Abstract PURPOSE: The research proposal is to evaluate the association between certain irian signs and general pathology of studied patients. METHOD: There were studied 57 hospitalized patients; there was taken over all their iris images, which were analyzed through iridological protocols; in the same time the pathology of these patients was noted from their records in the hospital, concordant with the clinical diagnosis; all these information were included in a database for a computerised processing. RESULTS: The correlations resulted from, shows a high connection between the irian constitution establish through iridological criteria and the existent pathology. CONCLUSIONS: Iris examination can be very useful for diagnosis of a certain general pathology, in a holistic approach of the patient. Authors Demea S Author information

Abstract Iridoscopy was carried out in 40 patients with rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis in order to detect visceral abnormalities. Various gastrointestinal diseases were revealed in 32, vascular and neuropsychic disorders in 16, and renal or pancreatic shifts in 5 patients. Abstract The state of the iris has been studied in 817 persons, of them in 150 workers of oil-industry, in eye office conditions. Iridodiagnostics was performed in one and the same person using two methods: with the help of a slit lamp “SL-56” and a magnifying glass. For topic diagnostics, a scheme of projection zones of the iris was used, proposed by Vida and Deck. The results obtained were compared with clinical diagnosis made in the out- or in-patient’s departments by internist, gynaecologist or other specialists. In 80.1% of the subjects a pathologic sign situated in the corresponding zone of the iris has almost precisely indicated the affected organ. Among the whole number of subjects in 37% of persons the revealed pathologic signs of the iris have indicated the physicians to the organ where the disease had not been earlier diagnosed. • Comments Off on Novel Approach of Molecular Genetic Understanding of Iridology: Relationship Between Iris Constitution and Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Gene Polymorphism
Abstract

Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye to detect the conditions of the body and its organs, genetic strengths and weaknesses, etc. Although iridology is not widely used as a scientific tool for healthcare professionals to get to the source of people’s health conditions, it has been used as a supplementary source to help the diagnosis of medical conditions by noting irregularities of the pigmentation in the iris among some Korean Oriental medical doctors. Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene polymorphism is one of the most well studied genetic markers of vascular disease. We investigated the relationship between iridological constitution and ACE polymorphism in hypertensives. We classified 87 hypertensives and 79 controls according to iris constitution and determined the ACE genotype of each individual. DD genotype was more prevalent in patients with a neurogenic constitution than in controls. This finding supports the hypothesis that D allele is a candidate gene for hypertension [...]

Abstract:

Cardio Vascular Disease (CVD) is a condition that occurs due to heart failure. CVD is one of the significant causes of life loss. If CVD left untreated, it may result in multiple organ failures. Iridology, a class of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and a non-invasive diagnosing method, has the ability to determine the dysfunctional organ in human. In iridology dysfunctional organ is identified by analyzing the characteristics of iris. Deep learning is one of the promising methods in diagnosing various health-related issues. In this study, an attempt has been made to verify the efficiency of the iridology in determining subjects with heart disorder using the deep learning algorithm. Iris images from 133 subjects, 50 subjects having heart issues (unhealthy) and 83 subjects with normal functioning of heart (healthy), were obtained using Cogent CIS 202 iris scanner. The proposed system used Circular Hough transform and Daugman’s rubber sheet model for iris segmentation and normalization, respectively. [...]

  • Comments Off on Machine learning and deep learning approach for medical image analysis: diagnosis to detection
Abstract

Computer-aided detection using Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML) shows tremendous growth in the medical field. Medical images are considered as the actual origin of appropriate information required for diagnosis of disease. Detection of disease at the initial stage, using various modalities, is one of the most important factors to decrease mortality rate occurring due to cancer and tumors. Modalities help radiologists and doctors to study the internal structure of the detected disease for retrieving the required features. ML has limitations with the present modalities due to large amounts of data, whereas DL works efficiently with any amount of data. Hence, DL is considered as the enhanced technique of ML where ML uses the learning techniques and DL acquires details on how machines should react around people. DL uses a multilayered neural network to get more information about the used datasets. This study aims to present a systematic literature review related to applications [...]

  • Comments Off on Screening and validation of the iris manifestation among patients with hemiplegia – an observational study
Abstract Objectives

Understanding and validating the science behind traditional diagnostic methods is a niche area to be explored. Iris diagnosis is one such valuable diagnostic tool used in Naturopathy. In the current study, we have assessed and documented the iris changes observed among patients with hemiplegia with respect to the iridology chart.

Methods

We recruited 35 patients with hemiplegia which includes both genders. Iris image was captured by Angel Kiss New 5.0MP Iridology Camera with Pro Iris Analysis Software. Lesion characters, such as open lesion, closed lesion, spot, furrow, radii solaris, intestinal crypts etc., in the iris were noted along with its various characteristics in an excel sheet in numerical order for analysis.

Results

Majority of the included patients were male (n=30) and the mean age of the patients was 46 years. The most common iris lesions noted were radii solaris and intestinal crypt in the cerebrum and cerebellum regions. Other notable lesions include open lesion, [...]
