Determination of the relationship between the width of the sodium ring and the level of cholesterol

Abstract

The sodium ring, which is a sign of high cholesterol, is a region in the vicinity of the whiteness around the iris. The examination of this loop and its follow-up can be considered as an alternative method of determining and controlling the level of cholesterol. In this study, the calculation of sodium ring width was aimed to determine the relationship between calculated width and cholesterol level. Sodium ring widths were determined using eye images obtained from 10 different patients. The relationship between these values and the cholesterol values of the patients has been studied and a sodium ring width determination method which is not existed in the literature has been proposed. With the proposed method, the irregular sodium ring width can be determined with 85.3% accuracy using cholesterol values.
